The Gili islands are a group of three small islands off Lombok′s west coast.
Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan all have superb white sandy beaches, clear
water and coral reefs with colourful fish. It is one of the best areas for scuba diving around
Lombok. Most tourists are from the younger generation, they relax in the sun, do snorkelling or
simply walk along the beaches. On the island no motorized vehicles are allowed.
So the main way of transportation are bicycles and small horsedrawn carriages, called cidomos.
And because there are nearly no trader and beggar, the stay is much
more relaxed than it is on Bali, for example.
A power supply is only partly available, so that technical devices are misplaced here.
On the island there is absolute serenity here and you will surely relax your body and mind.
Gili Meno is very quite and peaceful and offers the best beaches of all Gili islands. If you want
to stay on your own while wandering along the beach, your are right here.
Gili Tarawangan is a party island. Tourism is well developed here and party people will find everything
they desire within 1km on the beach.
Gili Air is closest to Lombok and has more of a rural, established feeling than the other two.

The Gili islands can best be reached by the Perama bus, shuttle
and boat service either from Bali, or via a flight to Mataram, from Senggigi. While the tour from Bali takes around
5 hours and costs about Rp. 185,000, from Senggigi its just a little hop from Senggigi and much less expensive.
The airport of Mataram serves frequent domestic flight connections from Jakarta, Denpasar and Surabaya,
and an international connections is available from Singapore operated by Silk Air.
If you already stay in a hotel on lombok, take a taxi to Bangsal harbour. As the taxi cannot approach the harbour directly
you will be ask to take a horsecar. But beware: it's only a 100m walk and the horse car riders tend to cheat foreigners.
From Bengsal harbour the public boat costs not more
than Rp. 10,000 to any of the Gili islands. However, as these public boat might go only twice a day, the possibilty
of chartering a own boat for Rp. 120,000 to 150,000 per trip is also available.
On the Gili islands themselves you can travel around by bycicle or simply walk the distances, as the Gilis
are very tiny islands. If the temperature is to hot to move your body, take a cidomo, which is a small horsedrawn carriage.
