WELCOME TO MALUKU -
The Spice Islands

Maluku, or the Moluccan Islands, consists of hundreds of pretty and tiny islands, sprawling from Halmahera Island in the north to Wetar Island in the south. It is the home of the spices that attracted traders from India, China and Arabia in the past, and later European adventurers to search for cloves and nutmeg which grew nowhere else in the world and that were once as precious as gold. These so-called gold on trees commodities that lured Europeans to sail across the ocean to trade were a source of power and later established colonialism in Indonesia for many centuries.

Today, the spice trade no longer exists and the island has returned to its old natural beauty. Despite the intercommunal and religious conflict in recent years, the Malukans are well-known as friendly people in Indonesia.
