Bali is famous for harboring some of the best surfing beaches in the world and is a
dream surfing destination for all surfers.
One of the most famous surfing beaches in Bali is Ulu Watu, which is located in the Bukit.
Ulu Watu is a wave that primarily forms a left-hander, fast, and hollow wave, which breaks
on a shelf of reef. This is where you will find world-class waves for expert surfers only.
There are 5 different spots in Ulu Watu where you can surf. They all work best during different
swells and tides. The spots are called The Peak, Racetracks, Inside Corner, Outside Corner,
and the Temple.
The Peak works best during mid and high tide and starts pumping from 1ft to 8ft.
You don’t want to surf it when it’s low tide because it closes out. It’s also the most crowded spot in Ulu Watu.
Racetracks is a really fast wave and has a lot of sections. You can get great tubes and is best at low tide.
This spot is usually ideal for surfing at about 6 feet but can hold bigger surf during the right tide and the right swell.
You can get a really long ride.
Inside Corner works well during mid and low tide with a swell of 6 feet. It’s a fun wave with an insider tube.
Outside Corner is known for being the "real" Ulu Watu because it works only with huge swells that are bigger than 8 feet
and only during low tide. The length of the wave is about 300 meters with long walls. Sometimes it even bowls up for a
nice tube ride!.
The Temple is usually the uncrowded spot of Ulu Watu because it takes a professional to really surf it.
It is very shallow but has great barrels when it actually works.
Make sure to wear booties, have a good quality leash, and always check what the swell and tide
is doing when surfing Ulu Watu. Remember when in doubt, don’t go out! Ulu Watu is for expert surfers only!.

Ulu Watu temple is assumed to be on of the oldest temples in Bali.
It is built on a rock, which rises 90 meters in height above the Indian Ocean.
The Pura Uluwawtu is relatively well preserved, even if the number of monkeys living in it have left some damage.
At sunset, walk around the cliffs top to the left of the temple. But watch out for monkeys, who like to snatch sunglasses
and anything else within reach.
From Kuta you can reach the temple on a way along the coast by a long beach walk or by bicycle. Its a 15km distance. Therefore use the road from Denpasar toward Tabanan. In this way, turn left in front of Tabanan towards the direction to Kediri. In Kediri himself a side road leads down to the coast.
