The great temple Pura Goa Lawah is located in the district of Klungkung. Its attraction is the holy bat cave.
On the cave ceiling and over the entrance thousands of fruit bats hang on the rocks.
Those visitors who are not afraid of the buzzing and the acrid smell of the animals and their
droppings can experience religious Hindu ceremonies live in the temple.
The cave was probably already an ancient place of worship for animistic religions, before the temple
was foundet in the 11th century was of Empu Kuturan, a Hindu priest from Java.
It is one of the six holy temple on Bali. The Balinese believe in an underground tunnel that will connect
the cave with the holy Besakih Temple, which represents the connection between the lower and upper world.
Goa Lawah is about 9km from Klungkung on the east coast of Bali.
Coming from Kuta the road winds along the coast towards Sanur.
The driving time will be 1.5 -2 hours, depending on how the traffic
is in the Kuta area.
Unfortunately, there is no public transport available. So we recommend to take
